The Week's Recommended Reading on Substack:
writes that “we are seeing more and more instances in which the conspiracy theories themselves become motives for the criminal and terroristic violence, especially when the perpetrator’s politics aren’t clear or are mixed. Even when they are known, the terroristic component of the act is often overlooked as the crimes are written off as just kooky conspiracism.” writes that “past presidents, including Trump, have gone after journalists who’ve published government secrets using the Espionage Act. This would be quite ironic considering Trump himself has been charged with violating the Espionage Act in the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case. Trump could certainly utilize that law to target journalists, but presumably the government would have to make the case that the journalist disseminated classified material.” writes that “the problem, as always, is that our media and leaders are too often focused on the culture war side of these attacks and not on the broader and deeper wars Republicans are waging.” writes that “in modern life, few people believe they are made of glass (though there are a few unconfirmed cases). Instead, the frequency of our modern delusions—whether derived from mental illness or conspiratorial paranoia—reflect our societies, our fears, and our culturally-specific anxieties.” writes that “Texas has one of the most extreme anti-abortion laws in the world. Not only is abortion banned in almost all circumstances, but the ‘vigilante’ law means that private citizens can sue abortion providers and those who assist patients seeking an abortion after about six weeks of pregnancy. This has a chilling effect on doctors who may be afraid to provide abortion care even when there is a threat to the mother’s life, in case they are prosecuted under the laws.”Discussion about this post

Could we have a writer writing about radical goodness once in a while? Not to ignore the doom, but to find a passable alternative to escape to?? Just for a few minutes? Thank you for considering this.
With regards to Thor Benson and his piece "How Trump might go after the Press" you might be interested to know that while he occupied the WH in January 2018 his administration made a request to the producers of the movie "The Post" which focused on the now historic efforts of the press in the early 70s to print the classified information it had come into possession of from the late Daniel Ellsberg. The request stated that the WH wanted to show it at both the WH and Camp David.
