Morning Briefing: Far right violent extremist groups are using private Telegram channels to share on “anti-Trump protests planned for Saturday, June 14,” and these groups have been “calling for their members to disrupt them.”
The anti-immigrant group Americans for Legal Immigration PAC emailed an map of the anti-Trump protests to supporters, and claimed the grassroots immigrant rights activists intend to "spread the chaos from Los Angeles to other towns to overwhelm US law enforcement and ICE.”
Active Clubs, the network of neo-Nazi White Supremacist fight clubs, reportedly “appear to have recently ramped up their efforts to recruit young men and boys, launching a series of ‘youth clubs’ around the country. The group’s Telegram channels show members have been posting racist propaganda flyers.”
While the FBI claims the agency’s “domestic terrorism investigations continue uninterrupted,” the agency has recently reassigned “some agents focused on domestic terrorism to a new task force set up to investigate the Oct. 7 Hamas attack and its aftermath.”
Jonathan Julio Nique allegedly “accumulated numerous and varied firearms that included homemade guns,” and “spoke about blowing government buildings and a house of worship,” according to charges filed by local prosecutors.
Nick Fuentes, the antisemitic White Nationalist propagandist, said that the “groypers have won,” and that the immigrant rights and anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles have radicalized the right-wing. “I've noticed people like Charlie Kirk and Matt Walsh are now calling for an immigration moratorium. That means they want to shut down all immigration,” Fuentes said.

Jessica Pishko writes that the “chaotic and lawless tactics of the Trump Administration are helping to blur the lines between the military, law enforcement, and civilian enthusiasts. Almost as soon as Trump announced his plans for ‘mass deportations,’ private citizens expressed their eagerness to participate. Shortly after after being appointed border czar, Tom Homan, who is linked to border militias and many far-right influencers promoting the ‘border invasion’ narrative, told Fox News, ‘Thousands of retired agents, retired Border Patrol agents, retired military . . . want to come in and volunteer to help this President secure the border and do this deportation operation.’ As the Administration hollows out institutions, including federal law enforcement, the idea of private police, whether in the form of volunteers or cops for hire, has become increasingly attractive to many on the right. In Idaho, five security guards with a firm called Lear Asset Management were recently charged with misdemeanors for their role in forcibly removing a local resident from a Republican town hall. Those security guards, who were not in uniform—a violation of the state code—were accompanied by the county sheriff, a Republican named Bob Norris.” [The New Yorker]
Anna Merlan writes that “before May, most people in Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s so-called Make America Healthy Again movement likely weren’t familiar with Leland Lehrman, a self-styled media entrepreneur, anti-vaccine activist, and former teahouse owner who once unsuccessfully ran for the US Senate in New Mexico… even less well-known is Lehrman’s long history of promoting antisemitic and extreme conspiracy theories, as detailed in a new report from the Institute for Research & Education on Human Rights, an organization which studies extremism and the far right. The IREHR found that in the mid 2000s, Lehrman spread conspiracies about the September 11 attacks and extensively touted the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, an outrageous antisemitic forgery that purports to document a secret meeting where Jews plotted world domination and which has been debunked for over 100 years.” [Mother Jones]
Jason Wilson writes that “a staffer for the Missouri Republican senator Eric Schmitt was previously fired from Ron DeSantis’s unsuccessful presidential campaign after making a video containing neo-Nazi imagery, and later peddled far-right conspiracy theories in a Marco Rubio-linked thinktank. Nate Hochman’s job in the hard-right senator’s office, along with earlier Trump appointments to executive agencies, suggests to some experts there are few barriers to far-right activists making a career in Republican party politics. The Guardian contacted Eric Schmitt’s office for comment. Hochman, 26, has worked for Schmitt since February, according to the congressional information website LegiStorm, a development that was first noted on the political newsletter Liberal Currents. He has also posted dozens of times to X to publicize Schmitt’s initiatives, media appearances and speeches.” [The Guardian]
