Why your support is needed for a project to create an interactive visualization of the Moms for Liberty far right anti-LGBTIQ networks.
Moms for Liberty hosted the group’s annual national summit in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the featured speakers included prominent Republican politicians such as former president Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron Ron DeSantis.
The national summit highlights the growing influence of the far right within the Republican Party, as the speakers and attendees at the event represented spectrum of right-wing causes and groups ― including those with connections to far right extremists such as the Oath Keepers.
Moms for Liberty, which claims to have more than 275 chapters in 45 states, describes the organization’s mission as “dedicated to fighting for the survival of America by unifying, educating and empowering parents to defend their parental rights at all levels of government.”
The organization’s local chapters and leadership have been involved in efforts to ban books in public schools and libraries, opposing the teaching of comprehensive sex and reproductive health education, and advocating for various policies that target and punish LGBTIQ children and their parents.
While it is important to understand that there is not a singular force behind America’s far right authoritarian movement, which is comprised of various organizations, networks, and actors competing for political influence and financial resources, Moms for Liberty has emerged as a powerful network of activists that have had remarkable success at pursuing many of the far right’s goals on both the state and local level.
This project to create an interactive visualization of Moms for Liberty far right anti-LGBTIQ networks will be an important tool for understanding the current strategies and tactics of America’s far right authoritarian movement.
