The National Review Institute and the Charlotte Lozier Institute held a for Ending Roe Virtual Event webinar on Monday; speakers during the webinar included Kathryn Jean Lopez, senior fellow at the National Review Institute; Stephen Billy, executive director of Charlotte Lozier Institute; Ramesh Ponnuru, senior fellow at the National Review Institute; and Melissa Moschella, associate professor of philosophy at The Catholic University of America and visiting scholar at The Heritage Foundation.
Billy said during the webinar that U.S. policy is comparable to “China and North Korea that allow elective abortion up to the date of birth,” and that “every country has more restrictions that the U.S.” “What Mississippi has done is act on the will of the people of Mississippi.”
Ponnuru said during the webinar that the Mississippi law banning abortion after 15-weeks of pregnancy “is in fact very moderate,” and that there may be “some temptation on the part of some justices” to uphold the Mississippi law without overturning Roe v Wade. “That needs to be resisted, because there’s just no honest way to do it,” Ponnuru said.
