Alexander Reid Ross writes that White Nationalists through the so-called America First Movement (AFM) have “been a part of efforts to infiltrate Christian faiths through individual churches, podcasts, and political events, thus driving them toward the far right by distancing themselves from the white nationalist label and taking up the slogan of ‘America First’ and the cause of Christian nationalism.” [CARR]

The 1st Amendment Praetorian, a right-wing militia and self-styled private intelligence firm that offers protection for “Americans being attacked for expressing their political beliefs”, propagates paranoid conspiracy theories and intelligence memos that read like something “ripped from the thrillers” the group’s founder published, according to reporting from William Bredderman and Will Sommer. Intelligence Dispatches
The South Carolina legislature is considering a proposal that would expand the state’s “right of conscience” laws to include mental health professionals with the intention of circumventing ordinances to ban so-called “conversion therapy” passed by local governments in the state — including the ordinance recently approved by the Columbia City Council. As more and more local governments have approve ordinances to prohibit conversion therapy for minors, Republican lawmakers have introduced proposals to curtail the ability of local governments to prohibit the practice of conversion therapy. In Wisconsin, Republican lawmakers introduced legislation to prevent the state Department of Safety and Professional Standards from implementing regulations that prohibit conversion therapy. In Oklahoma, a Republican lawmaker introduced the Parental and Family Rights in Counseling Protection Act, which would ban the state or local government from prohibiting a mental health professional or religious advisor from providing counseling that sought to treat “unwanted same-sex attractions, behaviors, identity, sexual or gender-identity expressions, or unwanted gender dysphoria.” In South Carolina, the Medical Ethics and Diversity Act was introduced by Republican lawmakers in both the House and Senate — similar legislation was approved by the Arkansas legislature but vetoed by Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson. The Christian Right will oppose any efforts to prohibit conversion therapy on the grounds that such prohibitions are an infringement of religious liberty. This opposition is led by organizations such as the Christian Medical & Dental Associations, the Family Research Council, and the Liberty Counsel.
