Monthly Reports on Far Right and Violent Extremist Activity

“Extremist groups participated in more anti-LGBTQ+ demonstrations in June, which is commemorated as Pride month in the United States, than the entirety of 2025. Though extremist groups in the United States have seen a precipitous decline in their overall public activity over the past few years, members of Patriot Front, White Lives Matter, the Active Club Network, and the neo-Nazi Blood Tribe participated in anti-LGBTQ+ demonstrations in at least four states last month.” [Armed Conflict Location & Event Data]
“Leaked documents reveal that Patriot Front, a white supremacist group that broke off from the neo-Nazi organization Vanguard America in 2017, is rapidly expanding across the United States. As of early 2026, the group has grown to over 540 members across every state except Hawaii, with Florida being second only to Texas in membership numbers with 36 members.” [International Observatory for Terrorism Studies]
“Hatewatch reported that the crowdfunding website GiveSendGo appears to be a lucrative source of financial support for the anti-trans movement… Retired U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer Greg Bovino appeared on a white nationalist podcast… At least two alleged members of the neo-Nazi forum FashFront were arrested in June.” [Southern Poverty Law Center]

White Supremacist Propaganda in Michigan

White Supremacist propaganda apparently produced by the Goyim Defense League (GLD), a White Supremacist neo-Nazi group, reportedly “distributed antisemitic flyers in the communities” in Michigan. [The Detroit News]
Local law enforcement in Berkley and Southfield are reportedly “investigating after the discovery over the weekend of antisemitic flyers in their neighborhoods,” and the flyers included a “variety of antisemitic imagery.” [ABC News]
Antisemitic pamphlets were also reportedly “found distributed across several neighborhoods in Huntington Woods,” and local law enforcement is “looking for the people responsible.” [NBC News]

Civil Rights Lawsuit Settlement With Neo-Nazi Group

New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella announced that the New Hampshire Department of Justice has “submitted a Final Decree resolving the State’s civil rights enforcement action against Christopher Hood, Nationalist Socialist Club-131 (NSC-131), and associated defendants.” [Office of the Attorney General]
More than three years after members of a NSC-131, the neo-Nazi group, “disrupted a drag story hour at a cafe in downtown Concord,” the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office announced a “settlement with the group’s leader that includes fines and community service.” [NPR]
The Final Decree requires that Hood “pay a $10,000 civil penalty (the maximum fine permitted by law), with $7,500 suspended upon the condition he complies with the terms of the court order,” and Hood “must also complete 250 hours of community service with an organization approved by the state.” [New Hampshire Union Leader]
The order also prohibits Hood and other members of NSC-131 “from discriminating again or from coming within 250 feet of the former Teatotaller location or contacting its owner or staff.” [ABC News]

Capitol Riot Defendants Seeking Secret Payouts

Capitol Riot defendants are reportedly seeking government payouts through the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA), and “absent immediate congressional action to promote transparency and oversight of settlements, they may have found just the avenue they’re looking for to negotiate substantial and secretive payouts with the Trump administration.” [Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington]

Weekend with the Proud Boys

“So, it occurs to me, the Proud Boys want to fuck around, but they don’t want to find out. They’re willing to intimidate and escalate, which is why their actions draw so much attention; they’re effective because their presence is threatening. Yet these men, who describe themselves as ‘proud,’ hide their faces behind gaiters to avoid retribution. Is that not the opposite of pride?” [Esquire]
Jen Golbeck, journalist and professor at the University of Maryland, recently published an account of a weekend away with a chapter of the Proud Boys, the far right violent extremist group. Golbeck joined Indira Lakshmanan to “recount her experience and what surprised her, what did not surprise her, and what was familiar to her.” [NPR]

Morning Briefing: Court Allows Inclusion of Racist Motive in Trial of White Supremacist Tops Friendly Market Mass Shooter

Morning Briefing: The U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals issued a ruling that will “motivations of racial hatred as aggravating factors into the upcoming federal death penalty case against Payton Gendron,” the White Supremacist who pleaded guilty to state charges for shooting and killing 10 people at the Tops Friendly Market in Buffalo, New York.

Federal prosecutors will also be allowed to present aggravating factors including “Gendron’s alleged attempt to inspire additional acts of violence,” and the impact on surviving victims. Gendron is currently serving life in prison without the possibility of parole, and federal prosecutors “announced the decision to pursue the death penalty.”

Federal immigration agents reportedly used racial slurs to identify alleged undocumented immigrants “while sweeping through Los Angeles last year,” and text messages cited in court filings revealed agents used racist language such as “wet” and “tonks.”

Jacob Engels, right-wing influencer and associated for the far right violent extremists group the Proud Boys, is reportedly facing “charges for possession of methamphetamine, resisting an officer, disorderly conduct, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession/illegally obtained prescription,” which resulted from an incident that allegedly took place at a motel in River Falls, Wisconsin.

In Tolland, Connecticut, White Supremacist propaganda produced by Patriot Front, the White Nationalist group, was removed from a utility pole, and the Connecticut State Police is reportedly investigating the signs “which appeared across town.”

Patriot Front propaganda was reported in Park City, Utah, and Patriot Front propaganda was also reported “posted on lightposts and stop signs up and down Main Street” in Haines, Alaska.

True the Vote appears to be working with Lorenzo Sewell, a pastor from Detroit who spoke at Trump’s inauguration last year… The film is set to repeat many of the claims first made in a 2024 lawsuit filed by Detroit political activist Ramon Jackson, who claimed that Democratic election officials, including Michigan secretary of state Jocelyn Benson and Detroit city clerk Janice Winfrey, orchestrated a scheme to register former Detroit residents and cast votes under false registrations in elections dating back to 2017.” [Wired]
Moira Donegan writes that “when MAGA leaves power, all of the officers, bureaucrats and leaders of ICE – from the uniformed thugs in masks on the streets, to the contractors guarding concentration camps, to the suited vultures directing the operation in Washington and drafting legal memos to justify it – all of them must be held accountable. Their immunity from criminal prosecution and civil suits must be eradicated, and their liability must be made retroactive. They must be investigated, tried, fined, punished and ostracized. Needless to say, ICE must be abolished – attempts to merely reform it must be resisted as betrayals of democratic values. But it is not enough to abolish ICE. Those who are responsible for ICE must be driven from public life.” [The Guardian]

Morning Briefing: Local Elected Officials 'Facing Sustained Threats to Their Safety and Security'

Morning Briefing: After a serious escalation in political violence, this year, local elected officials report that they are “facing sustained threats to their safety and security,” according to a survey published by the Bridging Divides Initiative (BDI).

BDI-CivicPulse survey, based on responses from more than 460 elected officials, found that 54% of elected officials “reported experiencing at least one form of hostility during the survey period,” and 46% said they were “worried about experiencing at least one form of hostility in the future.”

Vance Boelter, who pleaded guilty to assassinating a Democratic lawmaker in Minnesota, has been “sentenced to two life terms plus 40 years in prison, in a case that underscored growing concerns over political violence in the United States.” The sentencing was “part of a plea agreement with prosecutors,” however, the agreement “did not resolve state charges Boelter is also facing.”

In Oakland County, Michigan, Marc William Aisen, who was previously convicted for sending threatening, antisemitic emails to a Bloomfield Township official, was “sentenced to one year in jail, with 931 days credit for time already served.” Aisen sent a series of emails to the Bloomfield Township treasurer and hundreds of his associates that made “baseless child sexual exploitation accusations against a Boston-based Jewish organization.”

The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office is reportedly negotiating with Christopher Hood, the leader of the White Supremacist neo-Nazi group (NSC-131), in an effort to bring the ongoing civil rights lawsuit to a conclusion, and the state’s prosecutor is seeking to have Hood and members of NSC 131 “found in default for the continued refusal to hand over evidence in the case.”

In Portland, Indiana, white supremacist propaganda produced by a chapter of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) was reportedly “distributed in Jay County and the surrounding area.” The flyers were produced by an Ohio-based KKK organization and promoted an “out-of-state gathering.”

Its annual black-tie gala pulled some of the biggest names in the conservative movement, including Donald Trump, who was a keynote speaker at the club’s 2023 event. In recent years, however, the club’s choices in leadership, programming, and endorsements appear to show a shift toward a strident nativist political position and a hard-line free-speech agenda focused on issues of immigration, nationalism, and Christian faith — ideological positions in line with the America First agenda associated with both Trump and Vice-President J.D. Vance. The club has endorsed far-right figures, like Hungary’s Viktor Orbán, and honored Markus Frohnmaier, a leader of Alternative for Germany, which has been labeled an “extremist” organization by that country’s intelligence services.” [New York Magazine]
Christopher Mathias writes that “the story of how the term ‘remigration’ traveled from the far-right fringes to the halls of power is one of the most defining, emblematic, and alarming of the 21st century. It is a story of how the ‘fringes’ were never really that fringe at all; of the power of euphemism or, in far-right parlance, of ‘hiding your power levels,’ to advance a white nationalist agenda; and of a tech platform taken over by a white South African immigrant to America who last month became a trillionaire. When you see or hear the word ‘remigration,’ it is imperative that you know it means ‘ethnic cleansing’ — a term considered by some genocide scholars to be a euphemism in of itself, one that masks the historic horrors of homes being raided, of human beings separated from their families, of concentration camps and mass murder.
